Contract work for BBC between Jan 2008 to April 2011
BBC World Service Future Media (Nov 2010 - April 2011)
- Work in 'Rapid Delivery' team to migrate older World Service websites to the new global 'GEL' designs and also into the internal 'Topcat2' CM system.
- Develop using a mix of SSI's, XML, CSS, jQuery.
- Had to learn a lot of internal applications, procedures and terminology unique to the BBC.
- Migrated Afrique (French speaking nations), Indonesia and Mundo (Spanish speaking nations).
- Worked on re-factoring some of the generic GEL search functionality.

BBC Mundo Spanish speaking service. I worked on the release for 3 different language speaking services.
BBC Archive Collections Team (Feb 2008 - Oct 2009)
- Sole technical resource within the BBC Archive Online team. Build Archive Portal Website according to web standards and to BBC publishing standards.
- Use BBC Glow javascript framework technology, Barlesque publishing server and bespoke "Ethel" CM system (built using templating toolkit).
- Author technical documents to help external consultancy to build "Ethel" system.
- Digitally process all of the images used in the Archive Collections.
- Help to evolve sites according to various stages of accessibility and usability testing.
Examples of BBC Work
White Season Home This was the first official collection of Archive material to be released after the Archive Trial. Released in conjunction with the TV series "The White Season".
White Season programme The White Season was later re-packaged as the Working Class collection, independent of the tv series.
Collection Home (Zoo Quest) A typical collection homepage, featuring BBC Glow functionality. Each collection can contain a combination of programmes, documents and galleries.
Collection Gallery (Mining) Galleries will contain rare photos, all of which are BBC copyright.
Collection Programme (Holocaust) Embedded Media Programmes (audio or video) tend to be, with the exception of the Princess Elizabeth collection, geo-ip restricted.
Collection Document (Dads Army) Unfortunately, PDF versions of documents are not permitted for rights reasons, so documents are presented in JPEG format.
Portal 1st version The portal is the main home for all collections. As the number of collections grew, the portal evolved too.
Portal 2nd version This version was launched after much close work with the accessibility team.
Portal 3rd version This version was created after much close work with the usability team..
Meet The Experts A collection of talking head videos by Archive experts within the BBC.
Collections Page When the new CMS is launched, collections will be sorted via keywords/genres.
CMS Keywords Prototype #1 A lot of work has been done to improved the ability to tag and search assets within the collections.
CMS Keywords Prototype #2 This work is expected to go live at the end of sept/start of October 2009.
CMS Keywords Prototype #3 This will make it easier for the site visitor to navigate the site and to be able to search across collections easily.
Reed Managed Services (Dec 2007 - Feb 2008)
- Help to redevelop Reed internal recruitment system - was sole front end dev working with other java devs.
- integrate legacy (as well as new) code into new design.
- Develop bespoke functionality in javascript.

Xpress homepage (old) The Reed internal recruitment system was being re-developed with a fresher look and cleaner code.
Xpress homepage (new) The front end was heavy on javascript and forms. Code was also fragmented across multiple java files.

Victor Chandler International, Gibraltar (Nov 2007)
- Adapt legacy JSP code to new designs by removing nested tables and replacing with css.
